El Camino Reelers: Square Dancing in Silicon Valley for the LGBTQ Community and friends

Richard Wegener

We were saddened to learn that Richard Wegener passed away on July 13. Richard and his wife Mary Jane joined ECR in 2012 and belonged to many other local square dance clubs. Mary Jane writes:

Today was not a good day. Richard passed away early this morning. He was unable to recover from the head trauma from a fall on June 24. He came home to hospice care and left us again early this morning. Peter hs son and Elizabeth our daughter were with me when he drew his last breath. Unfortunately I ended up in the hospital, too, with viral pneumonia and acute respiratory failure. They sent me home a day before Richard, tethered to oxygen. Other than problems with swollen legs, I am rapidly improving. I am not allowed to dance until I am cleared by the oxygen clinic...early August.
Richard was the center of my universe, the love of my life. We were married for 45 yrs. It will be hard without him.

June 8: San Mateo Pride

A pleasant June day in San Mateo! ECR members danced in the Pride parade and onstage. A lot of potential new dancers signed up at our booth. Rich Reel was our caller, Kurt Gollhardt was salesman extraordinaire, and Pete Levins organized the whole thing.

Circle up! We welcomed prospective new dancers at our second Open House of the year. Michael Levy was our caller.

Real dancing.
Real people.
Real fun.

EL CAMINO REELERS is a modern Western Square Dance club, formed by lesbians and gay men in order to meet people, have fun, and learn to square dance. We dance to live callers using the Callerlab SSD-50, Mainstream, Plus, and Advanced programs.

Looking for a new kick?

LEARN TO SQUARE DANCE! It's a great way to meet active, open-minded, intelligent, and sometimes very silly people. We would love to welcome you to our club. Come to one of our no experience required Open House Nights, or send a note to information@reelers.org and let us know you're interested.

Our next Beginner class starts Tuesday, September 10.
