New ECR members from the Red and Violet Blast Classes show off their diplomas at the end of a long day of square dancing. Michael Levy was the Red class instructor; Kurt Gollhardt taught the Violet class.

ECR Special Election Results

On August 22, ECR members were asked to vote on a proposal to amend the club's Charter and Bylaws. The bylaws change was proposed by the ECR Board and was sent to all paid members for their approval.

Of 65 eligible voters, only 35 submitted ballots (54%) . But those who voted unanimously approved the change (100%). The amendment passes.

The proposal reflects the trend within the IAGSDC community to replace Mainstream with Social Square Dancing (SSD) as the first level of the square dance curriculum. Dancers who have completed SSD instruction are now eligible for full ECR membership.

We held the special election now, rather than waiting until our regular Board elections in February, so that dancers who have recently completed the SSD program (including those who graduate in the September class) will be full members and eligible to vote in next year's elections.

August 13: A Family Affair

El Camino Reelers kicked off its second Beginner class of the year (our "Red" blast class) on Saturday, August 13. Caller Michael Levy introduced the next generation of square dancers to the basics. With a little help from their parents (all experienced dancers), these kids will be out-dancing the adults before long.

Real dancing.
Real people.
Real fun.

EL CAMINO REELERS is a modern Western Square Dance club, formed by lesbians and gay men in order to meet people, have fun, and learn to square dance. We dance to live callers using the Callerlab SSD-50, Mainstream, Plus, and Advanced programs.

LEARN TO SQUARE DANCE! It's a great way to meet active, open-minded, intelligent, and sometimes very silly people. We would love to welcome you to our club. Come to one of our no experience required Open House Nights, or send a note to information@reelers.org and let us know you're interested.
