El Camino Reelers: Square Dancing in Silicon Valley for the LGBTQ Community and friends

We're Having a Picnic!

Now that Spring is here and people are getting vaccinated, ECR will be holding its first live event in over 14 months. On Saturday, May 22 come join us in Robles Park in Palo Alto from 2:00 to 4:00 pm for a socially distanced picnic! Come out, come out, wherever you are, and see your Reelers friends after a year in hibernation!

We do have some pandemic-related restrictions, but we are hoping these won't get in the way of a good time for all.

  • No square dancing. This is just a picnic.
  • Households should stay at least 6 feet apart.
  • Wear a mask except when eating or drinking.
  • Please bring your own food, drink, and seating.
  • There are no restrooms available. ECR will provide hand sanitizer.
  • Please don't attend if you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with anyone with COVID in the last two weeks.
  • Consider your own health risk when deciding to participate in a group event.

KQED Interviews ECR: "Gentle, Geeky Fun with LGBTQ+ Pride"

In early March, a reporter from KQED interviewed several ECR members for an article on the Bay Area's LGBTQ+ square dancing scene. The article, with photos from the early days of gay square dancing and quotes by ECR members Kurt Gollhardt, Allan Hurst, Stewart Kramer and Ed Wilson, has been published on the KQED web site:

COVID-19 Update (5/9/21)

Santa Clara County is still in the Orange Tier. The county continues to experience high rates of COVID-19 transmission, and the danger COVID-19 poses to our community has not subsided. Social distancing precautions are still in place.

All individuals age 16 and older who live, work, or attend school in Santa Clara County are eligible to be vaccinated. The Public Health Department strongly recommends that anyone aged 16 and above get vaccinated now.

County COVID-19 info

St. Andrews Church and the Billy DeFrank Center have still not reopened.

The Board feels has sent out a survey to ECR members to ask what they would be comfortable doing and when. Please fill it out when you receive it. The survey will be available through Sunday, May 16.

EL CAMINO REELERS is a modern Western Square Dance club, formed by lesbians and gay men in order to meet people, have fun, and learn to square dance. We dance to live callers using the Callerlab Mainstream, Plus, and Advanced programs.

LEARN TO SQUARE DANCE! It's a great way to meet active, open-minded, intelligent, and sometimes very silly people. We would love to welcome you to our club. Come to one of our monthly no experience required Fun Nights, or send a note to information@reelers.org and let us know you're interested.
